Maybe you are planning to purchase your personal desktop computers.   It’s great that you found this article before buying one.   I want you to take a look and consider which is the best way or option to choose in getting your own computer.

This article will give you an idea which to consider in buying your own computer.  The prebuilt or packaged computers or buying different parts and built your own computer.  Which is better?

I will try to give you pros and cons of  each option.     But first, let me ask you what is your main priority in buying your computer?   Are you after the cost?  If not, then that is good to hear.   You can choose any of the given options.

Also, you must consider your work load before buying your own computer.  Are will you be using your computer for light computer jobs like office documentation or you will be needing it for photo or video editing?  Your workload will identify which is the  best  option that you should consider in getting your own  computer.

First we need to know the things we usually consider in buying a computer.

Here are the things that we consider in buying our computer:  motherboard, processor, video  card, memory, hard disk, available slots and ports, number of available USB slots, land card, modem.

Let us discuss first the first option buying a prebuilt or package computer.

This option is very common.  Most of the computer user prefer to buy this kind of computer.  Most especially if the user has no idea hich is the best  computer specifications.

Here are the advantages of buying prebuilt computers:

  • It is usually cheaper.   Most of the prebuilt computer were sold at best price.  Also, most of the time this is packaged with other peripherals like mouse, AVR, headset, printer or computer table.
  • Less hassle.  As a computer user, all you have to do is to compare the specification of the existing computers available and pick what is best.
  • Free software license.   Most of the prebuilt computer has free licensed software installed on it.  This option offers bigger saving on the part of the end user.

When we talk about its advantages, we talk about the following:

  • Limited computer option to choose from.  Sometimes, it is difficult to choose your dream machine by simply looking at the available prebuilt computer available in the market.
  • You are not aware of the know how of your own machine.
  • Most of the available prebuilt clone computers are not reliable when it comes to its performance and durability.

The next option is building your own computer.  Computer literates often prefer this option.  But for those who don’t have computer hardware knowledge they don’t consider this option.

So what are the benefits that you can have if you prefer to build your own computer?

Here are the advantages:

  • You can select the top of the line or the best parts of your computer.  You can have the full control in providing the feature and the cost of your own computer.
  • You will have an idea on how to repair and maintain your computer.  Since you will be the one to build your machine, you will acquire skills on how your machine works.
  • Familiarize yourself with the computer parts.  Since you will be doing it from nothing, you will be familiar with each part of the computer.
  • Satisfaction.  You are ware of the capacity of the machine your are building.
  • Warranty.  You can have parts with lifetime warranty.  You will not stick on the idea of one year limited warranty.
  • Cost.  You can choose the best option of computer parts at an affordable cost.  Most of the computer parts implies EOM.  Building your own computer will give you a big saving from OEM charges.

When we say disadvantages, it requires computer skills and sometimes it is an expensive option.

After discussing the pros and cons of each option, its up to you to choose the best option.

If you will ask me, I prefer the second option.  Building your own computer.
