How to add your Gmail account on Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is commonly used as an e-mail application though it also has added features like notes, contact manager, calendar, task manager and more which makes it more useful especially for business people. This is program is part of the Microsoft Office.  In this article, I’ll be showing the steps on how to integrate your Gmail account on Microsoft Outlook.

Step 1: First of all, in order for your Gmail account to work on outlook. You must first enable IMAP in Gmail. To do this, you must open your email first then click the gear icon on the upper right of your email. Select Gmail settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > Select Enable IMAP then make sure to save all changes.

Step 2: Open Microsoft outlook then go to tools > Accounts settings> Email >click New then click Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP then click next.

Step 3: Enter the required details then Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” then click next

Step 4: Select “Internet E-mail” then click next.

Step 5: Enter again the required details then enter the following for the server information.

Account type: IMAP

Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

After entering the following, click next again.

Step 6: Go to tools > Options then Mail Setup > Email accounts> Email then select the account then click change > more settings > advanced tab. Enter the details below for the following.

Incoming server (IMAP): 993

Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server (SMTP): 587

Step 7: Click Outgoing Server and check “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” then click ok.

In using Microsoft outlook as your email program, you don’t need to open your internet browser anymore to check your emails. I’m currently using this for my google account. If you want to use another Gmail account, it is also possible. You just need to do the following steps again to add an account. In this case, you’ll be using two Gmail accounts simultaneously.

After doing the said steps, do a test to make sure that everything works fine. Try sending an email to yourself. You must be able to send and receive messages. If you can’t receive and send any messages, there might be something wrong with your settings. Always make sure that the values entered are correct to avoid any problems with your email.
