(This is the concluding part of the 5 article series for Media Server At Home. Now, lets continue our discussion about unRAID.)

You may use any computer on your network when you’re done with the configuration and activation of the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks. Just like any other servers, if you use Avahi in configuring your un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks, it will simply be visible in your sidebars for Finder. For you to access the server, you may enter SMB://unRAID IP address after you select Go -> Connect To Server on the other hand.

Those that span several drives are single logical volumes for you can access specified Shares or on the machine which is individualized drives. When you have images to share for instance, you can see a volume with all your images on it, when on your network, you attach it on any machine. What you exactly seeing is the wide spreading of un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks drives which are the images themselves. The best thing with un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks software is that it has the goal of decreasing the figure of drives that are active at a specific time and takes care of your decision on which drive you have to write to. The machine will be cooler, quieter, and more power competent. You may simply mount a drive specifically when you like a specific drive to have a particular file or simply due to the fact that the drive you have may be faster than the others. What will appear in the shares relevant may be any files which you place on specific drives. Now, to keep music files on drives which are slower, and High Definition motion pictures on drives which are faster, the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks software allows you to specify which drives you may want to use for sharing.

The un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disk instantly computes the significant data which are backed up and on the parity drive the writing will be done on the drive when you write a file. If you want a writing process which can be a bit fast, then you may use un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks compared to having a network which have only a gigabit that makes the writing process slower. If you want to experience streaming bigger files from the media server of the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks which are High Definition without delays or faltering, you may work with big documents of Photoshop which can make it faster. For Time Machine backups, you may likewise use the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks even though you’ll need to create a simple Time Machine preference modification as with any drive of the network.

The parity drive may be shut off temporarily if you need to move to the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks a group of data. You may turn the drive on at a later time when you need to and backup synching can be initialized which can make your writing faster.

Please take note that waking up the un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks from a different machine on the network will be possible provided that the motherboard for un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks approves Local Area Network wake-on features. You may turn the platform for un-Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disk running after confining it in storage for a longer time.
