TWITTER MMDA's new way of Updating Traffic in Metro Manila
Most of us are aware that twitter is one of the most famous social networking sites on the web besides facebook. Most people are using it to update their followers on what is happening on their everyday lives. This is mostly used by celebrities and artists to update their fans on where they are, what they are doing and more. They can also plug their upcoming shows through twitter.
A week ago, our country was hit again by a typhoon which resulted to floods all over Manila. Watching the news might not be enough to get detailed updates regarding the traffic and the flood. While searching the internet for updates, I saw the twitter account of MMDA. I thought that twitter is just for those people who wants to share something about what is happening on their lives but after seeing the twitter account of MMDA, I realized that twitter is not just used for plugging shows or updating your fans. Twitter can also be used for public service.
Twitter was used by the MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) to update the public regarding the happenings in the city. They updated the traffic conditions in the metro. They tweeted updates regarding roads that have light to moderate traffic or heavy traffic. MMDA also gave updates on the status of flood on certain areas. They gave details on places where the water level is passable for vehicles or not. Based on experience, this traffic update was very helpful because you could monitor the traffic before you go out. This could help you avoid traffic and those roads that are still not passable by vehicles.
MMDA was not the only one who used twitter to update the public. Most city officials of most municipalities also used twitter. As we all know, twitter can also be accessed through your mobile phones. In this case, you can also be updated on the latest traffic happening wherever you are. On my own opinion, this program of MMDA was one of the best ways to serve us better. They used technology for us to know what is happening in the metro. MMDA’s twitter is open 24/7 and updates the public immediately on the latest happenings.
This program of MMDA was really helpful especially during typhoons or accidents. For those who want to be updated on the daily traffic in Metro Manila, you can follow MMDA’s twitter account – @MMDA.
