How to Share your Printer to other Computers on your Home/Office using Windows Xp

Sharing a printer for multiple computers will definitely gives you good reason to be happy because you will not only save money but also you save energy because you don't have to buy additional printer for other computers on your home or office and you will save your energy because you dont need to save your worksheet in your flash disk and go to the computer who have printer installed in it to print your work.

After you setup your small Office network, Sharing your printer is pretty easy. Find the best location of your printer in your network. If your printer produces annoying sounds while printing it would be better to install your network printer in a location where you cant hear the disturbing sound of your printer while printing a document.

A Printer can be installed and configured as print server in any computer in your network. You can install it in any PC you like in your network no need to purchase a high end server for use as a print server. You can even use your old mom's computer if you want.

Let's start sharing your printer now. Connect your printer to the USB port of your computer. Turn on your computer and your printer. Windows will detect your newly installed printer if your printer device driver is signed on microsoft windows driver database your printer will be automatically installed and ready to use. but if not you will have to install your printer driver manually.

To install your printer driver manually, insert the CD driver  provided with your printer into your computer's CDROM / DVDROM drive. A setup program will pop out click the install driver button or link and then follow the instructions thereafter. You just have to click next and next until you can see the Finish  button.

After installing your printer driver its time to share your printer to your network. You have to Click Start and then Select Settings and then click Printer and Faxes Right click your printer name in the list of printers eg.. HP printer or Cannon Printer Click Sharing  Click the Radio button Share this Printer type the name of your printer in the network eg hp or cannon then Click Ok Your printer is now shared on your LAN network

The next step is to connect all your other computers to your network printer. Go to one of the computers on your network. Click Start and then click Run tyoe the name of the network printer preceded by a double backslash eg. "\\printserver" printserver is the  name of the computer with the printer installed in it replace it with the one you used with your print server.

Double click the name of the network printer eg. hp or cannon, A small printer management window will pop out if no error is displayed you have successfully installed a network printer into your computer.
