Many will agree if I will say that Internet was one of the greatest developments in the 20th century. It allows people around the world to communicate in a snap of their fingers. Most residences anywhere in the world have Internet connection, and most of them share the connection over different computer terminal.
In this article I will give you a glimpse of how the router device helps the computer user to connect with other terminal and share Internet access.
Let me start by defining what is a router?
Router is simply an electronic device that is used to connect more than two computer terminal or electronic device so that they can connect with each other and even connect over the Internet. This connection can either be wired or wireless. For techie people, they defined router as a networking device that is used to customize the routing tasks by its software and hardware. Most of the routers minimum capacity has 4 ports for wired connection. Most of the wireless router also has ports for wired connection.
In wired connection, each computer or electronic device is connected to the router through their own cable. Most of the laptop and desktop computers have network adapter where you will connect the one end of the cable and the other end to the router.
When we say wireless connection, the computer terminal or laptop or any electronic device should have wireless adapter for it to connect to the router. For laptop and other electronic device, wireless adapter are already built-in on these devices. Most of the desktop, they add this wireless adapter on their unit.
Let us discuss further the task of a router.

In the history of networking device, router is the only device that oversees all the message sent in the network. It is responsible in ensuring that the message was sent and received by the recipient. Router use configuration table tool to decide where the packet should be forwarded. This tool includes priorities of connections, procedure for managing the network routine and traffic, and the information addresses.

The task of a router is to ensure that the recipient will received that data sent over the network. This is to ensure that data will not go somewhere most especially the large volume data. This is the reason why most of network connection used router. Also, router has the ability to assigned automatically IP address for each computer terminal connected to it. It is very easy to use especially for beginners.

One of its main advantages is the ability to protect each computer terminal in the network from traffic. The more terminal is connected to a router, the configuration table and processing ability of the router also grows.

Nowadays, there are different types of router available in the market. Each model differs on its capability and use. For example, there are routers for Internet connection, for SOHO or residential use or small business network, and those for large network coverage like WAN and MAN.

As I mentioned earlier, routers can be configured easily. So you can try one for your home for internet sharing capability.
